My walks with collie Savannah take me past two deserted buildings. It always startles me to glance at the windows of the empty buildings and see a light.
When I stop and look at the light I realize it’s my reflection. A neighbor gave me a neon orange high visibility jacket and when I pass a darkened window the coat floods the flat black with a luminous glow. I am the light I see.
Oh, if only all of us could always be the light that others see. May we be the colors of sunrises and sunsets; the spring yellow of daffodils along the paths of life; the diamond sparkles of new snow; the green and gold wash of trees covering mountains, the light that spreads joy and peace.
Sadly, I often fail in that. I realized it anew this morning when the sudden light in a dark window startled me as it has before.
We shouldn’t be surprised, amazed, or startled when we realize that we are a light along the way in someone’s path. God designed us to reflect light. God created light on the first day of creation. “And God saw the light that it was good.” Genesis 1:4.
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.” John 8:12.
Jesus also said, “You are the light of the world…Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13&16.
You have permission from Heaven to sparkle today with the light that only you can give.
